Which engineering plastic has the highest heat resistance for replacing metal?
PEEK is the leading choice. With a continuous use temperature of 260°C — and heat deflection temperatures above 315°C in glass-fibre reinforced grades — combined with excellent chemical resistance and retained mechanical properties, it is widely used to lightweight and replace metal components.
How do PSU, PESU and PPSU differ?
All three are amorphous sulfone polymers — transparent with excellent hydrolysis resistance. PSU offers the best cost-performance balance, PESU the highest heat resistance and stiffness, and PPSU the greatest impact toughness and repeated steam sterilization durability.
Can high-temperature resins such as PEEK and sulfone be coloured?
Yes. Ordinary masterbatches can shift colour or degrade properties at these processing temperatures, but Avient Colorant Chromatics™ colour solutions are developed specifically for PEEK and sulfone. Octud supplies resin and colour together so the material can be moulded directly as a pre-colored compound.
