The problem in this field

Safety approvals and high-temperature reliability must both be met in one part

Reflow temperature, UL94 flame rating, dielectric strength and tracking resistance — Octud supplies connector, insulation and housing materials built on inherently flame-retardant sulfones and PEEK.

Material requirements — Electrical & Electronics

6 requirements
01Flame rating (UL94)V-0 must be met at thin wall sections. Sulfones and PEEK are inherently flame retardant.
02Dielectric strength & propertiesElectric strength, permittivity and dissipation factor must suit the circuit requirements.
03Tracking resistance (CTI)Must resist insulation failure from tracking in contaminated or humid environments.
04Reflow & high-temperature resistanceNo deformation or property loss during assembly and in service.
05Dimensional stabilityFine-pitch connectors need low shrinkage and thermal expansion — addressed with GF reinforcement.
06Identification colour without losing ratingsFlame rating and properties must survive coloring.

Recommended materials & grades

Frequently asked questions

The sulfone family (PSU, PESU, PPSU) and PEEK are inherently flame retardant, with grades meeting V-0 without added flame retardants. BASF Ultrason® P 3010 is V-0 at both 1.5 mm and 3 mm, and Joyrun PEEK K10G is also rated V-0.

We recommend glass-fibre reinforced grades. Ultrason® E 2010 G6 (PESU, GF30) and Joyrun K10GL30 (PEEK, GF30) have low shrinkage and thermal expansion, which helps hold precision tolerances.

Yes. Our sulfone and PEEK grade pages publish dielectric strength, permittivity, dissipation factor, volume and surface resistivity and CTI together with the test standards, and the original TDS is available.

Ordinary masterbatches can affect flame performance and properties. Avient Colorant Chromatics™ colour solutions for high-temperature resins are designed not to compromise the base polymer, and we can confirm whether ratings are retained with supporting documentation.
